This semester of students from WGRL are new to the audio program and are learning on how to sharpen their interviewing skills and techniques.
Currently, the students are learning how to interview and wanted to experience a live radio show. Shadowing Nessa’s show was crucial as she showed them how important the pre-production of the show impacts the live show which is crucial to the success of any show or interview is learning how to differentiate the two. Furthermore, a quick Q&A allowed the girls to interact and ask Nessa questions about how she became a radio host and how to work and maneuver within radio and digital arts.
Having been in radio for 10 years, Nessa gave the girls advice on how to approach an interviewee and understand how to feedback off of the guest.
The girls then toured the HOT97’s studios with Nessa’s side-kick Queen Kong and Nessa’s Producer Katrina B.

The LESGC also runs several social venture businesses that offer job training and employment opportunities for teens and young mothers: The Art+Community Gallery, La Tiendita Fair Trade and Girl Made Gift Shop at the Essex Market, Celebrate Cafe, and the Sweet Things Bake Shop.
LESGC and Nessa have partnered up to support their Digital and Audio Arts and radio program WGRL, which is taught and headed by Kelly Webb and Jeannie Kopfmueller.
