This weeks Girls As Activists And Leaders seminar welcomed guest speaker Carmen Perez. Perez is the founder of the youth leadership group R.E.A.L. (Reforming Education, Advocating for Leadership) and Co-Founder of The Girls Task Force, which is dedicated to improving gender-specific services to better support all girls in our communities, and co-organizer of the Women’s March on Washington. She is also the executive director of ‘The Gathering For Justice’, which was founded in 2005 by civil rights activist Harry Belafonte. The organizations mission is to build a movement to end child incarceration while working to eliminate the racial inequities in the criminal justice system. Perez shared with us her journey as a youth growing up in Los Angeles to her adult life as an activist. This very special talk was recorded for WGRL, so stay tuned for the premiere later this month!.
