WALK-A-THON A fun parade winding through the parks and streets of the East Village and ending at an "old school" Girls Club-style block party, where we'll be dancing to the beats of the Girls Club’s own Avenue DJs. The Health & Wellness Fair and Block Party will host an array of community health providers and organizations, street games and participatory activities, healthy food for purchase, and our Fair Trade & Girl Made products for sale. Teams gather outside the Lower Eastside Girls Club at 10:30 AM to register for the walk. At 11:15 AM, the Brooklyn Express Drumline Marching Band will kick-off the Walk-A-Thon with their energetic rhythms and beats.HOW IT WORKS Sign up your team or become a team captain at girlsclub.org/walkathon Gather 10 or more people to form a team. Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball 2020Laissez LES bons temps rouler! On Thursday, February 27th from 7PM-11PM, the Lower Eastside Girls Club's Angel Alliance Junior Board hosts our Annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball sponsored by Bumble. Join us at VNYL (100 3rd Avenue) for a NOLA-inspired night to remember! The dance floor will be rocking with the latest hits, and the night will include raffle prizes you'll be crossing your fingers to win, a live NOLA-style performance by the Brass Queens, makeup by Winky Lux, passed apps and lots of other Mardi Gras-themed surprises. Come dressed in your festive golds, glitters, greens, purples, and blacks, to party with a purpose. We'll have funky masks and beads for you to don on the dance floor. It's In The Cards: Thoughts on TarotThe Lower Eastside Girls Club at Art on Paper Fair Our Artist-in-Residence, Courtney Alexander, focuses her work on representation, using tarot cards as one of her many mediums. For the past few months, Courtney —in collaboration with our Girls Club teaching artists, Megan Kindsfather and Lenora Thornton — worked with our members to create their own interpretations of the cards using mixed media and photography. Over the duration of the class, Courtney provided a space for the girls to honor and learn about themselves through the lens of storytelling. She also constructed an altar which will be on display at our Art on Paper exhibit. Art on Paper 2020 marks the expansion of the fair's reach into the international collecting community and the renewal of important partnerships with Brooklyn Museum, Lower Eastside Girls Club, and the city's most inspiring cultural institutions.
