The Lower Eastside Girls Club is seeking a Director for the Center for Wellbeing & Happiness!
Our new Director of the Center for Wellbeing & Happiness (CWBH) will lead this initiative of the Lower Eastside Girls Club to provide free wellness programs to Lower East Side community members of all generations and genders. With the CWBH set to open in Fall 2022, this position will develop, implement, evaluate, and refine all CWBH services in partnership with the community. Reporting to the Co-Executive Directors (directly supervised by the Co-Executive Director for Community and Development), this position will work closely with Girls Club leadership and community engagement staff to officially open the center in the Fall of 2022 and lead its successful implementation.
Responsibilities:
Administration
- Manage key CWBH administrative duties, including the:
- Development of a quarterly calendar of comprehensive CWBH program offerings
- Development of the marketing and outreach strategy for all CWBH offerings in partnership with the Communications Team
- Management of external communications, website content and Mindbody class registration platform, in partnership with the Communications team
- Creation of CWBH policies and procedures
- Coordination of the Center’s staffing schedule
- Management of the CWBH facility, in partnership with LESGC’s Facilities Manager
- Ensure the success of CWBH members in reaching their self-identified wellness goals by:
- Regularly reviewing member care plans with CWBH staff and assessing progress/challenges to meeting the goals set forth in the care plans
- Leading monthly and quarterly meetings with coordinating partners
- Providing mentorship to the staff to support their role as caring role models
- Reporting out on program outputs and outcomes to the LESGC leadership team
- Implementing strategies to improve program outputs and outcomes, as needed
Programming & Partnership Management
- Implement community-driven programming rooted in the social determinants of health and utilizing a Healing Justice framework, for all ages and genders through the CWBH by:
- Identifying and managing creative partnerships with prospective community instructors and partners;
- Serving as the main thought leader in developing the CWBH’s offerings
- Managing CWBH Board of Community Ambassadors and translating community feedback and needs into the CWBH’s offerings and external messaging.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Serves as an ambassador for the organization and all of its initiatives
- Manages relationships with key community stakeholders, including community ambassadors
- Engages community members to increase their knowledge of, and involvement in, the organization’s programming, as requested, by:
- Organizing, attending, and/or presenting at community meetings and events
- Responding to public and community inquiries about organizational initiatives
- Sharing and posting outreach materials such as flyers, posters, and other promotional materials in the community
- Manage the community engagement strategy of the CWBH and effectively delegating engagement tasks and objectives to CWBH staff
Supervisory
- Partner with the HR Manager and Co-Executive Directorsto recruit CWBH staff
- Directs, supervises, trains, and motivates all full-time CWBH staff
- Approves timecards and time off requests for CWBH staff
- Develops the CWBH schedule
- Completes professional development plans for the staff to ensure their success
Education & Experience
- Has at least one of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and at least three years of successful experience in the last five years in providing access services to low-income City residents OR
- At least five years of experience providing access services to low-income City residents
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience
- Proven experience working with diverse populations
- Understanding of issues of equity and social justice
- Experience integrating participant voice into programming
- Fluent in English
- Preferred: Experience delivering services to low-income families in the Lower East Side/Chinatown; have a Family Development Credential; professional working proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Fujianese
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Belief in the mission and values of LESGC
- Familiarity with strengths-based approaches, self-advocacy strategies, and social emotional learning principles
- Knowledge of the Healing Justice framework a plus
- Flexibility and the ability to work collaboratively
- Professional, well organized and strong attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and ability to connect with staff, parents, and community members
- Able to design and develop robust, innovative initiatives in collaboration with staff Detail oriented, motivated, and highly organized
- Attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously, to track work details, to delegate wisely and to respond flexibly to changes
- Possesses cross-functional skill sets to successfully tackle diverse tasks and projects.
- Knowledge of New York City agencies and programs; ROMA “accountability cycle” framework
Organizational Relationships
- Reporting to Co-Executive Directors(directly supervised by theCo-Executive Director for Community & Development)
- Partnering with the Director of Strategy & Communications, and Director of Programs, Human Resource Manager, and Facilities Manager
- Supervising Program Manager, Community Health Workers, and Community Ambassadors
Must be available some nights and weekends
Salary:
The salary for this position is $90,000–95,000, commensurate with experience. The Girls Club’s benefit package includes medical, dental, vision insurance, a flexible spending account, dependent daycare, and a pre-tax transit benefit.

About the Center for Wellbeing & Happiness
Rooted in the belief that the wellbeing of our youth members is intimately connected to the w ellbeing of their family, their community, and their world, the Girls Club has expanded its mission and service population with the launch of their Center for Wellbeing & Happiness (CWBH).
The Center for Wellbeing & Happiness strategically addresses the wellbeing and health disparities in the Lower East Side by utilizing intentional, trauma-informed, holistic programming rooted in community-centered resilience, prevention, recovery, and self-reliance. In Fall 2020, the Girls Club launched our Virtual CWBH to provide free virtual wellness programs in the midst of the pandemic as we awaited the renovation of the physical CWBH.
In Fall 2022, we will open the doors to CWBH: a 5,000 ft2 state-of-the-art space, adjacent to our existing Girls Club facility.
