THE LOWER EASTSIDE GIRLS CLUB AND CENTER FOR WELLBEING & HAPPINESS WELCOMES CARMEN RITA WONG AS NEW BOARD CHAIR
NEW YORK, NY—November 1, 2024—The Lower Eastside Girls Club (LESGC) and the Center for Wellbeing & Happiness proudly announce Carmen Rita Wong’s appointment as the new Chair of their Board of Directors. Wong, a renowned writer, producer, and non-profit board leader, will bring her exceptional expertise and deep commitment to empowering youth across New York City, especially young women and gender-expansive youth.
Carmen Rita Wong, author of Why Didn’t You Tell Me?: A Memoir (Crown Penguin) has had an illustrious career. She was co-creator and host of CNBC’s On the Money, a contributor to NBC’s the Today Show, CNN, and CBS, has written for The New York Times, and was a national advice columnist for Glamour, Latina, Essence, Men’s Health, and Good Housekeeping. Wong is a seasoned advocate for minority-owned businesses and served in President Obama’s Business Forward initiative, helping to advance African-American, Latino, and Asian business owners. A former New York University faculty professor, she is the author of two novels, two best-selling advice books, and with her production company, Malecon Productions, LLC, an active investor in and producer of film, theater, and art.
Before joining the Girls Club, Carmen was Vice Chair of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Board of Directors and has served as a leader on governance Boards for The Moth, Dress for Success, Futuro Media, VivaBroadway, the NY Urban League, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
As Board Chair, Wong will be pivotal in guiding the organization through its next chapter of growth and impact, ensuring it continues to transform lives through mentorship, career development, and community wellness.
