Digital and Audio Arts / WGRL
Girls participate in digital photography, video production and editing, audio engineering, sound design, and graphic design programs. Documentary video and graphic design programs teach visual media, marketing and storytelling.
Our WGRL – Where Girl Radio Lives! Internet Radio station is now online! The sound studio at WGRL hosts a variety of programs, the centerpiece of which is the recording studio housed in a vintage 1950’s airstream trailer!
Our girls learn technical skills such as DJing (both digital and using turntables), music production, sound engineering, music theory and radio journalism. We also offer classes in traditional guitar and a “Seriously Noisy” batería-style marching band. WGRL (our radio journalism class) produces regular podcasts and interviews with celebrities, community activists, musicians, fashionistas and powerful women in just about every walk of life and has covered events such as the Halloween Dog Parade, National Record Store Day and the Herstory event at City Hall.
Our goal in the sound studio is to tell our stories through the mediums we are gaining proficiency in, and in turn share these stories with the world.
