Girls discover the fascinating universe of science and technology, develop an appreciation and love of STEM subjects, and confidently realize that they too can thrive in these male-dominated fields.
The Girls Club’s Lamarr-Lovelace Labs consist of three programs that introduce students to ideas and careers in science and technology. The Maker Shop, WGRL Sound Design Studio and our 64-seat East Village Planetarium with 30’ digital dome offer exciting opportunities for school groups and Girls Club members to access hands-on science education.
The Labs are named after two women who made significant contributions to the field of computer technology. Hedy Lamarr’s method of coding radio transmissions in WWII formed the basis of modern wireless communications, and Ada Lovelace, a mathematical prodigy, is recognized as the first computer programmer.
